Answer:

Explanation:

The Northwest Ordinance, officially known as "An Ordinance for the Government of the Territory of the United States northwest of the River Ohio," and also "The Ordinance of 1787" was enacted on July 13, 1787. It was an act by the Congress of the Confederation of the United States. In 1784, Thomas Jefferson proposed that the state should claim all the western territories of the Appalachians, and these areas should be divided into Union States. Jefferson derived this proposal of Union state from the earlier proposals. He suggested this proposal by creating rough rectangles and naming these territories namely: Cherronesus, Sylvania, Assenisipia, Illinoia, Metropotamia, Polypotamia, Pelisipia, Washington, Michigania and Saratoga. This ordinance established the basis for the Northwest Ordinance of 1787.
