An CPI can be said as an index which  measures the prices of "market basket" of some 300 good and services that is assumed to be fixed and the services are brought by a "typical" consumer.

Explanation:

1)<u>How does the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) calculate the rate of inflation from one year to the next?</u>

The Consumer Price Index is an index  which measures the prices of  market basket of goods and services and it  is used by the Bureau of Labor to calculate the rate of inflation, using the price of the basket from the current year divided by the base year, then multiplied by 100.

<u>2)What effect does inflation have on the purchasing power of a dollar?</u>

Inflation lowers the purchasing power of the dollar and it basically occurs when the market basket of goods is priced positively  with reference to  the rate of inflation.

<u>3) How does it explain differences between nominal and real interest rates</u>

A  real interest rate is an interest rate that takes into account the effects of inflation in order  to reflect the real cost of funds to the borrower and the real yield to an investor. A nominal interest rate refers to the interest rate that is calculated before taking the effects of inflation into account.

<u>4)How does deflation differ from inflation?</u>

Deflation occurs when the rate of inflation is negative.

A corporate bond with a 6.5 percent coupon has 15 years left to maturity. It has had a credit rating of BBB and a yield to matur
Scrat [10]

Answer:

Price change in dollars = $104.22

% decrease in price of dollars = 11.13%

Explanation:

We assume the corporate bond have a face value of $1,000

Face Value = $1000

Coupon = 6.5%*1000/2 =32.50

Number of Periods = 15*2 =30

Semi annual rate of BBB bond = 7.2%/2 =3.6%

Price of BBB Bond = PV of Coupons + PV of Par Value =

Price of BBB Bond = 32.50*(((1-(1+3.6%)^-30)/3.6%)+1000/(1+3.6%)^30

Price of BBB Bond = $936.43

Semiannual Discount Rate for BB bond = 8.5%/2 = 4.25%

Price of BB Bond = PV of Coupons + PV of Par Value

Price of BB Bond = 32.50*(((1-(1+4.25%)^-30)/4.25%)+1000/(1+4.25%)^30

Price of BB Bond= $832.21

Price change in dollars = $936.43 - $832.21

Price change in dollars = $104.22

% decrease in price of dollars = $104.22 / $936.43

% decrease in price of dollars = 0.111295025

% decrease in price of dollars = 11.13%

On July 1, Shady Creek Resort borrowed $350,000 cash by signing a 10-year, 8.5% installment note requiring equal payments each J
egoroff_w [7]

Answer:

$29,750

Explanation:

Given that

Borrowed amount = $350,000

Interest rate = 8.5%

The computation of interest expense is shown below:-

Interest expense in the first annual payment = Borrowed amount × Interest rate

= $350,000 × 8.5%

= $29,750

Therefore, for computing the interest expense in the first annual payment we simply multiply borrowed amount with interest rate.

Suppose you are committed to owning a $215,000 ferrari. if you believe your mutual fund can achieve an annual return of 10.8 per
Pie

Answer: I must invest <u>$85424.14</u> today in order to buy a Ferrari nine years from now on the day I turn 30.

We have

Price of the Ferrari nine years from now (Future Value - FV)    $215000

Expected Rate of return on the mutual fund (r)    10.8%

Time until I turn 30  (n)   9 years

We can calculate the Present Value (PV) or the money to be invested today as

\mathbf{PV = \frac{FV}{(1+n)^{n}}}

PV = \frac{215000}{(1+0.108)^{9}}

\mathbf{PV = 85424.14022}
