If x + y = 6, then solve for y to get: y = 6 - x.

Now replace y with 6 - x in both equations.

(5x)/3 + 6 - x = c

2(6 - x) = c - 4x

The upper equation is solved for c.
Now we solve the lower equation for c.

c = 2(6 - x) + 4x

c = 12 - 2x + 4x

c = 2x + 12

Since we have two equations solved for c, we substitute to get

(5x)/3 + 6 - x = 2x + 12

This is an equation in only x, so we can solve for x.

(5x)/3 - 3x = 6

5x - 9x = 18

-4x = 18

x = -9/2

Now we solve for y.

x + y = 6

-9/2 + y = 6

y = 9/2 + 12/2

y = 21/2

Now we solve for c.

c = (5x)/3 + y

c = (5 * (-9/2))/3 + 21/2

c = -45/6 + 21/2

c = -15/2 + 21/2

c = 6/2

c = 3

Answer: c = 3

3. if you want to represent geologic time with a 24-hour clock, how many years would be represented by a single second, minute a
Amanda [17]

In geologic time scale a single second = 52,083.3 years, a minute = 3,125,000 years, an hour = 187.5 million years

Geologic time, the extensive interval of time occupied by the geologic history of Earth. Formal geologic time begins at the start of the Archean Eon (4.0 billion to 2.5 billion years ago) and continues to the present day.

So the geologic time scale (GTS) contains different ranks of times about Earth, obviously you know this already. However, the GTS has these different ranks in order from shortest length of time to longest length of time.

The Earth is about 4.5 billion years old. We want to convert this geological time in a period of 24 hours. So, if 24 hours correspond to 4.5 billion years, then, 1 Hour= 4.5 billion / 24=187.5 million years. There are 60 minutes in an hour ∴ 1 minute =187.5 million /60=3,125,000 years finally, one second has 60 seconds ∴ 1 second=3,125,000 / 60 = 52,083.3 year.
