In a certain prairie community, a dominant prairie grass species has recently been infected with a virus that disrupts one of th

e electron transport proteins in the chloroplasts of infected cells.(a) Describe the most likely effects on cellular processes (be specific as to which processes and molecules are most likely to be directly affected).(b) Describe and explain the mos likely effects on individual infected plants.

Answer:

a) If the electron transport protein is disrupted in the chloroplast then ATP production will not occur. ATP is required for the light-independent process like in the calving cycle by which carbohydrate production takes place. Therefore disruption in electron transport chain will reduce the production of carbohydrates and cellular respiration will also decrease.

b) The effect will be not good on the individual plant because ATP is important for the cell to grow and remain metabolically active and fit. Therefore this virus will hinder the growth and repairability of plant and would weaken the plant.

What's the difference between the ranunculus and zea may stem?

Thanks for your help!! :)
kirill115 [55]
There is a difference between the stem of these two plants because Ranunculus is dicot and Zea mays is a monocot. Zea mays does not have a vascular cambium and has scattered vascular bundles composed of xylem and phloem tissue. On the other hand, Ranunculus has its vascular bundles in a ring arrangement and ground tissue is differentiated hypodermis, cortex, endodermis, pericycle and pith (there is no differentiation in Zea mays).

Example of the second law of thermodynamics in environmental science
miss Akunina [59]
The second law of thermodynamics says that the transfer of energy is imperfect. For example on Newton’s cradle, as GPE is transferee to kinetic energy and back, energy is lost due to gravity forcing the balls down and eventually the motion stops

A geneticist studying fruit flies finds that out of a total population of 400 he observes only 12 flies with red eyes, the rest
tigry1 [53]

The question says that in a population of 400 flies, only 12 had red eyes.

The total number of fruit flies in this case is 400.

and

The total number of flies having red eyes is 12.

To find out the percentage of fruit flies having red eyes, following formula is used:

\frac{\textup{total number of flies having red eyes}}{\textup{total number of flies}}\times 100

So, the percentage of red eye individual is;

\frac{12}{400}\times 100 \\ \\=3

Hence, the total percentage of red eye offspring is 3%.
