Answer:

Distance = 15\ miles

Explanation:

Given

North = 12\ miles

East = 9\ miles

Required

Distance from her house to the store

If she drive straight from her house to the store, this would form a right angled triangle;

Where the horizontal line would be:

North = 12\ miles

And the vertical line;

East = 9\ miles

And the required distance would be the hypothenuse of the triangle;

Using Pythagoras, we have:

Distance^2 = 9^2 + 12^2

Distance^2 = 81 + 144

Distance^2 = 225

Take square root of both sides

Distance = 15\ miles

Read the excerpt from "Home Front Diary." I was helping Mom clean the dishes from Sunday dinner, and Dad had the radio tuned in
shepuryov [24]
Hi again!

The excerpt's mood during the story is B, disbelief. The reason that this is disbelief is because the main character, after hearing what had happened, is shocked because of the news and basically stands still.

It's not A because the main character is not expecting the news to happen, and it's not C because the main character shows no joy after finding out what had happened. Lastly, it's not fear because the main character portrays no signs of fear, only shock.

Hope I helped :)
