Answer: America suffered from great economic loss at that time. To again economy, they decided to expand and to some foreign intervention.

Explanation:

Around 1890, lot of things were going on in the outer world but America was just involved in its own. They merely thought the need to look and interact with other countries at that time.

However, the imperialists intervened and raised a concern for an urgent need to get Americans involved in foreign investments. This was a time for expanding American business to foreign markets.

It was in 1897, when William McKinley became the President, that America finally thought to do the expansion. However, McKinley made it clear that he don't want any war.
