Marisol is in a bathtub that is shaped like a rectangular prism, about 5 ft long, 2 ft wide, and 1 ft deep. She is drinking hot

cocoa that is in a cylindrical mug about 3 in. wide and 4 in. tall. She wonders how many mugs of water it would take to fill her tub. Her reasoning, shown here, contains an error.
The bathtub has a volume of about 17,280 in³, or about 1×10^4 in³.
The mug has a volume of about 28 in³, or about 3×10^1 in³.

1×10^4/3×10^ 1=1/3×10^3 , so about 333 mugs of water would fill the bathtub.

What is Marisol's error?

The volume of the mug is not 28 in³.
The volume of the tub is not abut 17,280 in³.
The value 17,280 should have been rounded to 2×10^4 .
The value 28 should have been rounded to 2×10^1

Based on the given reasoning that is presented above, the mistake that Marisol have done is that she rounded down the value 17,280 in³ into 1 x 10⁴ when in fact the value following 1 is higher than 5. This gave a very big discrepancy from the calculated value to what the correct answer is supposed to be. The answer is the third choice.

6 points Emily’s family needs to rent a moving truck to move their belongings to a different house. The rental cost for Trucks-A
Alexxx [7]

Answer/Step-by-step explanation:

Equation to represent the daily rental cost for each type of truck can be written as follows:

Daily rental cost for Trucks-A-Lot = 42 + 0.72m

Daily rental cost for Move-in-Truckers = 70 + 0.12m

Where, m = Emily's mileage

To determine the number of miles for which the truck cost the same amount, set both equations equal to each other and solve for m.

42 + 0.72m = 70 + 0.12m

Collect like terms

0.72m - 0.12m = 70 - 42

0.6m = 28

Divide both sides by 0.6

\frac{0.6m}{0.6} = \frac{28}{0.6}

m = 46.7

At approximately 47 miles, both trucks would cost the same amount.

Check:

Daily rental cost for Trucks-A-Lot = 42 + 0.72m

Plug in the value of x = 47

= 42 + 0.72(47) = $75.84 ≈ $76

Daily rental cost for Move-in-Truckers = 70 + 0.12m

Plug in the value of x = 47

= 70 + 0.12(47) = $75.64 ≈ $76

Indicate whether the statement is true of false.
yawa3891 [41]

The statement is false, as the system can have no solutions or infinite solutions.

<h3>Is the statement true or false?</h3>

The statement says that a system of linear equations with 3 variables and 3 equations has one solution.

If the variables are x, y, and z, then the system can be written as:

a_1*x + b_1*y + c_1*z = d_1\\\\a_2*x + b_2*y + c_2*z = d_2\\\\a_3*x + b_3*y + c_3*z = d_3

Now, the statement is clearly false. Suppose that we have:

a_1 = a_2 = a_3\\b_1 = b_2 = b_3\\c_1 = c_2 = c_3\\\\d_1 \neq d_2 \neq  d_3

Then we have 3 parallel equations. Parallel equations never do intercept, then this system has no solutions.

Then there are systems of 3 variables with 3 equations where there are no solutions, so the statement is false.

2(1 − x) = 9(1 + 2x) + 52(1 − x) = 9(1 + 2x) + 5
marusya05 [52]

Solving the equation 2(1-x) = 9(1 + 2x) + 5 we get x=-\frac{3}{5}

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to solve the equation 2(1-x) = 9(1 + 2x) + 5 and find value of x

Solving:

2(1-x) = 9(1 + 2x) + 5\\2-2x=9+18x+5\\Adding\,\,-18x\,\,on\,\,both\,\,sides:\\2-2x-18x=9+5\\Adding\,\,-2\,\,on\,\,both\,\,sides\\-20x=14-2\\-20x=12\\x=\frac{12}{-20}\\x=-\frac{3}{5}

So, solving the equation 2(1-x) = 9(1 + 2x) + 5 we get x=-\frac{3}{5}
