Intramembranous ossification is a process by which flat bones are formed. This mechanism involves the development of the bones on the top of the skull. Intramembranous bones are developed by the differentiation of the mesenchyme cells into osteogenic cells which in turn become osteoblasts. The spongy bone is a highly porous structure localized inside the bones which is lighter than compact bone, while bone marrow is a soft connective tissue localized within the spongy portions of bones.
