A primary source would be a first hand account, say an interview with someone that personally witnessed something.

A secondary source would be something like a peer reviewed article, something you could find on google scholar.

A tertiary source is something like Wikipedia, or and encyclopedia which have gathered the information from various secondary sources. (these should not be cited often, but are a great resource for your personal understanding of a subject)
