The reason for this separation was that from 960-1127, the Song capital was in the city of Bianjing and the Daynasty kept control of the eastern part of China. The Southern period was due when the Jurchen Jin Dynasty took control of the northern half. Time during this Dynasty was filled with life, artworks, development in military strength and stability for the Chinese.
