Life in the republic was liberal and people enjoyed more rights and privileges, while life in the empire was restricted. The enjoyment of life depended on one's standing in the social strata or hierarchy in place in both regimes.

Explanation:

The major difference between life in the Roman Republic and life in the Roman empire was that while the citizens enjoyed more freedom and liberty in the republic, they enjoyed limited rights and freedom in the empire because the emperor was the commander, under whose whims and caprices everyone must subject him or herself. For instance, in the republic, the wealthy few or those that fall into the patrician class who had climbed the social ladder enjoyed a life of luxury and affluence, however, the advent of the empire regime curtailed these rights. Life in the republic and the empire was similar in that in both systems, enjoyment of life depended on one's social standing in the hierarchy/ class system in place in the Roman society. Thus, one's place in the hierarchy system determines the level of privilege and opportunities that one enjoys.
