Much of history would be lost if it wasn't written. Doing it by hand is hard and not very steady. Besides the point, ink fades off over time with some cases, with the printing press, its way much more transparent and stable to read. The printing press allowed 4 everyone to get access to books. Before it was the elite that could only get a key to books, with books printed in enormous quantities, it basically democratized knowledge and spread it around .
