The conversion of light into nerve signals takes place in special cells in the retina called photo receptors. Each photo receptor has four parts: an outer segment, an inner segment, a cell body, and a synaptic ending. The retina has dual capabilities i.e. it can work in dim light due to the rods, and in bright light, due to the cones.
The retina is the part of the eye which converts light into electrical impulses with its photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) to the brain. Vision is achieved when light enters the pupil, focused by the lens, and converted into signals in the retina.
