subtract 15 and -8....you subtract because the sign are different

now do the same for the other side


−5x+7=−x−12+4x+43

−5x+7=3x+31

bring the x value from the right side to the left side.

−5x+7−3x=31

combine like terms on left side

−8x+7=31

now move +7 to the right side which become..

−8x=−7+31

−8x=24

we will need to single out X by dividing

-  \frac{8x}{ - 8}  =  \frac{24}{ - 8}  =  - 3
