During the fifteenth century, Muslim merchants took control of the trading routes from Asia to India, by transporting their spices through the Indian Ocean. They then shipped it to the Persian Gulf where the spices were taken by land to Europe, where the Muslim merchants dominated a vast majority of the spice trade. Since Spices were a new commodity with high demand they were extremely expensive which is why the Muslim Merchants went through such a process to get the spices to Western Europe.
