A team of scientists is studying a mitochondrial DNA sequence shared by two species, and they determine that the DNA has a const

ant mutation rate. The DNA sequences of the two species are shown below.
Species A: GTAGGCATTCGAT
Species B: GCACGCATACGTT

The scientists use the idea of molecular clocks to determine that the two species diverged from a common ancestor 40 million years ago. Based on this information, how much more time would it take for the two species to differ by a total of 10 base pairs?

80 million years
200 million years
60 million years
40 million years

Answer:

The correct answer would be 60 million years.

The molecular clock is a technique used to determine the time when the two species diverged from a common ancestor. It uses the mutation rate to determine the same.

Mutation rate is the rate at which a number of mutations take place in a given unit time.

If we compare the DNA sequence of the given two species, we would find that four mutations have taken place in forty million years.

Species A: GTAGGCATTCGAT

Species B: GCACGCATACGTT

Thus, the mutation rate of the species is one mutation per 10 million years.

The DNA sequences already have 4 mutations. Thus, for a total of 10 mutations, 6 mutations are required.

Thus, in 60 million years the two DNA sequences would differ by a total of  10 nucleotides.

Based on the temperature data in the table which chemical reaction should the students use for their food carrier design
Sladkaya [172]

Answer:

Reaction 1

Explanation:

Reaction 1 would be the most suitable in this case. This is so because in reference to the question you are wanting to keep the food warm over long periods. So in reference to the data in the chart reaction 1 continues to heat up over long periods of time. However, with the other reactions (2, 3, 4) temperatures vary and some even decrease constantly. Therefore showing that the other reactions are invalid to help reach your goal referencing back to the question.

Which of the following statements correctly identifies the location of the hydrogens bonds in DNA
asambeis [7]

Answer:

This question is incomplete as it lacks options. However, it can be answered based on general knowledge of the DNA structure.

Hydrogen bonds in a DNA are located between the nucleotides that holds the double stranded DNA molecules.

Explanation:

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is the genetic material in living cells. The DNA molecule is made up of nucleotides monomers. However, since the DNA molecule is double-stranded, the nucleotides are of two chains composed of four nucleotide subunits viz: Adenine (A), Thymine (T), Guanine (G) and Cytosine (C).

The two chains of nucleotides in a DNA molecule are called strands. Each strand is bonded to one another by the nucleotides using complementary base pairing i.e. A-T, G-C. The bonds between the nucleotidew of each strand is called HYDROGEN BOND.

Hence, HYDROGEN BONDS in a DNA molecule is located in between two nucleotides of each strand. That is, hydrogen bond holds Adenine to Thymine and Guanine to Cytosine.
