PEMDAS

The E stands for exponent, but also powers and square roots.

1. -2√9+4. The square root of 9 is 3. Because the -2 is outside the square root, you have to multiply it by the answer. -2*3=-6. -6+4=-2. The answer to #1 is -2.

2. Doing the same thing you did in #1 in question #2, you get the answer is 29.
