[(x^2 - 4) / (x - 8)] / [x - 2] -----> express this way:

[(x^2 - 4)] / [(x - 8)(x - 2)]

But x^2 - 4 = x^2 - 2^2, which is a difference of squares: a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b) ----->

[(x + 2)(x - 2)] / [(x - 8)(x - 2)] -----> (x - 2) gets cancelled out ----->

(x + 2) / (x - 8)
