Barbara claims that her horse can do simple addition problems. She showed her horse eight different cards with simple addition p
Arturiano [62]

Answer:

Barbara's horse can add

Step-by-step explanation:

To test if the horse could add, Eric he tried to calculate experimentally the probability that the horse had guessed the 8 answers.

If we call "trial" the action of throwing 8 coins and count the number of tails obtained, then eric made 53 trials.

During each trial, 8 events could have occurred:

Get 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 tails.

The plot of points obtained by Eric shows the frequency in which each of these 8 events occurred during the 53 trials.

The fact that the point diagram shows only one point on event 8, means that it occurred only once during the 53 trials, and compared to the other 7 events, this was the one with a lower frequency (the one that obtained the the highest frequency was the 4-tailed one, with 11 points).

This means that it is very unlikely to get 8 queues when casting 8 coins.

Therefore it also means that it is unlikely that Barbara's horse has guessed the 8 answers.

So, curiously, Barbara's horse maybe knows how to add

Answer:

Half a pound.

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the number of pounds he ate, multiply the fractions.

\frac{5}{6}*\frac{3}{5} = \frac{15}{30}=\frac{1}{2}

He ate 1/2 a pound.

Hey all, can I get the answer + explanation for this? Would be much appreciated.
marysya [2.9K]

Answer:

x = 120

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's draw an imaginary dot in the middle of that line which runs between those two parallel lines, and now lets look at it as an angle.

This lines' angle is 180 degrees. Now lets move those two parallel lines together on the imaginary dot in the middle.

We can see that on the left side is one degree and the other side is another, however when we put them together we get the angle measurement of the our line which we identified was 180.

Now that we can see that our two angles must equal 180 when put together we know and can say that:

40 + (x + 20) = 180

So, lets work this out like basic algebra now.

40 + x + 20 = 180

       x + 60 = 180

           - 60   - 60

               x = 120

And voila we have our x value.

Hope this helps :)

Billy-Bob has a piggy-bank filled with nickels and quarters totaling $11.90.
Lunna [17]

Answer:

x = 33

y = 41

Step-by-step explanation:

GIven

x: number of nickels

y: number of quarters

A nickel = $0.05

A quarter = $0.25

then we have the system of equations

0.05*x + 0.25*y = 11.90

x + y = 74

Which can be solved applying any of known methods. Then, the solution is

x = 33

y = 41

hope this was helpful.
