In texts, word choice refers to the type of vocabulary or words selected by the author as vocabulary can be formal, emotional, scientific, informal, among others. In the case of argumentative essays in which the author needs to provide arguments and evidence to support his/her position, the best is to use formal, and precise language or word choice. This is necessary because argumentative essays are academical text and therefore informal language such as slang or colloquial expressions should be avoided. Additionally, word choice needs to be precise because your arguments must be clear and use technical vocabulary if required.
