Answer:

Because the old men have died, the young have to make decisions.

Explanation:

In his speech given before his surrender in 1877, Chief Joseph tells of his decision to no longer fight against the American army in the Battle of the Bear Paw Mountains. He states his surrender to the government for he had lost a lot of his Nez Perce people in the fighting.

In the speech titled "I Will Fight No More Forever", Chief Joseph laments how his people had been killed and scattered, leaving family members dead and missing, without food. He says <em>"The old men are all dead. It is the young men who say yes or no"</em>, implying that the young men are now the ones in authority to do and decide what the future becomes. He also reveals <em>"I am tired; my heart is sick and sad"</em>, and decided to fight no more.

A scene about an important, fictional event.
Vsevolod [243]
I stood in the back of the crowd, watching as the elf king walked towards the pulpit where the human queen already stood in all the grandness of the twelve regions. She stood, her head held high, her long white hair from years of war flowing freely in the gentle breeze. Her dress was made of golden silk with details of white flowers patterned onto the fabric. She represented the best the human kind had to offer, a willingness to bow and say that this centuries long war would be put to an end.
The elf king dipped his head in return, he was wearing long royal blue robes, his short brown hair pushed back as he straightened again. Setting his quill in the ink first he signed his name followed shortly by our queen.
They shook hands and the crowd cheered. The war was over.

Hope this isn't too long, and hope you like my writing. Just whipped this up. ^-^

bazaltina [42]
<span>The correct answer is A. The river is constantly changing. The author describes the Mississippi as fickle because it is not constant - you can never know when it is going to change, and whether that change will be for the better or for the worse. The word fickle means changeable, volatile, irregular. </span>

Now look at the words you just defined as they exist in lines from Macbeth. See if you correctly determined the meaning for each
borishaifa [10]

Answer:

In Act I, Scene I, the play opens with a storm and three witches. They make plans to find Macbeth after a battle and give him their predictions. During their opening chant, they use several paradoxes.

First, they say, 'When the battle's lost and won.' In other words, all battles have one winning side and one losing side. Reading into it deeper, we see that Macbeth will win many battles in the play, but for each victory, he will also have a loss. We later see Macbeth win his battles to become king when he kills King Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff's family. However, these murders eventually lead to him losing his wife and then his own life.

The witches later say, 'Fair is foul, and foul is fair.' The witches are saying that what is fair to man is foul to the witches, but what men may see as foul, the witches see as fair. Put simply, the witches are seen as evil, but they see themselves as good.

This paradox also tells the audience that appearances can be deceiving, a main theme in the play. Macbeth appears to be a man of honor, unlikely to commit foul acts; however, he orders killing and himself murders. Macbeth believes that what may seen as wrong, or foul, to others are steps he must take to become king and stay in power. Macbeth believes it is his fate to be king, thus fair for him to take any steps necessary.
