Its founder and main figure is a Hindu noble man called Siddharta Gautama (sanskrit), or Siddhatta Gotama (pali), or the Buddha. He was born in Lumbini, near Kapilavastu , in present-day Nepal. Buddha is one of the many names his followers gave him, it means the "Awakened One." Buddhism proposes a path of spiritual perfection through man´s own effort.
