Not only are there numerous types of algae, but there's an abundance of plantkon that can photosynthesize, unlike the microscopic organisms on earth that can't and these plankton can be found anywhere in the world. On land, the only ones who photosynthesize are usually visible to the naked eye, not counting euglena.
