Answer: The right answer is the 2) "Which done, she took the fruits of my advice;"

Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that in this famous passage from Shakespeare's <em>Hamlet </em>it is possible to identify a metaphor in the second line, where the words "fruit" and "advice" have been linked or compared. A metaphor is a figure of speech that makes a comparison between two things that are unrelated, but that may share common features, with the goal of appealing to the senses and the imagination of the reader. Advice does not produce or give fruits. You can give someone a piece of advice, or just advice, but not a fruit of it. However, by saying "the fruits of my advice" the speaker sounds more compelling and graphic - you are forced to establish a connection that, in another context, would not exist.

Which of these best describes the author's purpose in the article? To compare the journeys many people take in searching for anc
lions [1.4K]

Answer:

The best description of the author's purpose in the article is:

To explain the process of researching ancestry through one person's story.

Explanation:

Learning about family history is the gateway to understanding the past.  It also exposes our common humanity amidst diversity. Family genealogy generates lively memories that propel each generation to learn their unique family traditions, culture, and origin.  This is why Matthew's gospel indispensably narrated the human genealogy of Jesus Christ.  With ancestral history, one can connect with the past in order to rebuild today for the future.

Fernando evaluated the expression below. StartFraction 5 (9 minus 5) over 2 EndFraction + (negative 2) (negative 5) + (negative
Juli2301 [7.4K]

Question:

Fernando evaluated the expression below.

\frac{5(9-5)}{2} + (-2)(-5) + (-3)^2 = \frac{5(4)}{2} -10 + 9 = \frac{20}{2} - 10 + 9 = 10 - 10 + 9 = 9

What was Fernando's error?

- Fernando evaluated the numerator of the fraction incorrectly.

- Fernando simplified 20/2 incorrectly.

- Fernando incorrectly found the product of –2 and –5.

- Fernando evaluated (-3)² incorrectly.

Answer:

- Fernando incorrectly found the product of –2 and –5.

Explanation:

Given

\frac{5(9-5)}{2} + (-2)(-5) + (-3)^2 = \frac{5(4)}{2} -10 + 9 = \frac{20}{2} - 10 + 9 = 10 - 10 + 9 = 9

Required

Spot the error

The error in this evaluation is the product of -2 and -5 at step 2

When a negative number (-2) is multiplied by a negative number (-5), the outcome of the multiplication is always a positive number (10).

So, the result of -2 * -5 is 10 but Fernando incorrectly calculated it as -10.

Solving the expression, correctly

\frac{5(9-5)}{2} + (-2)(-5) + (-3)^2 = \frac{5(4)}{2} + 10 + 9

\frac{5(9-5)}{2} + (-2)(-5) + (-3)^2 = \frac{20}{2} + 10 + 9

\frac{5(9-5)}{2} + (-2)(-5) + (-3)^2 = 10 + 10 + 9

\frac{5(9-5)}{2} + (-2)(-5) + (-3)^2 = 29

Hence, the actual result of the expression is 29 (not 9 as calculated by Fernando).
