Because of increasing evidence of damage to the ozone layer, chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) production was banned in 1996. However, th

ere are about 100 million auto air conditioners in operation that still use CFC-12 (CF₂Cl₂). These air conditioners are recharged from stockpiled supplies of CFC-12. If each of the 100 million automobiles contains 1.1 kg of CFC-12 and leaks 25% of its CFC-12 into the atmosphere per year, how much chlorine, in kg, is added to the atmosphere each year due to auto air conditioners? (Assume two significant figures in your calculations.)

Answer:

16,165 ton

Explanation:

120.91 g - 1 mole of CFC-12

1100 g - x mole of CFC-12

x = \frac{1100}{120.91}

x = 9,10 moles

9,10 moles - 100%

y - 25% that leakes

y = \frac{9.10 * 25}{100}

y = 2.28 mole

A mole of chlorine has 35,45 g, so 2 moles of chlorine has 70,90 g

1 mole of CFC-12 - 70,90 g

2.28 moles of CFC-12 - z

z = 70.90 * 2.28

z = 161,65 g of chlorine per air conditioner.

For 100 million air conditioner

t = 161.65 g * 100 * 10^6

t = 16,165 ton

What are ions and how do they work please send me answer
PolarNik [594]

Answer:

hope it helps

please mark me brainliest

Explanation:

An ion is a charged atom or molecule. It is charged because the number of electrons do not equal the number of protons in the atom or molecule. An atom can acquire a positive charge or a negative charge depending on whether the number of electrons in an atom is greater or less then the number of protons in the atom.

What is the metal cation in K,SO,? (cation is pronounced cat-ion and refers to a positively charged ion)
slamgirl [31]

Answer:

Potassium cation = K⁺²

Explanation:

The metal cation in K₂SO₄ is K⁺². While the anion is SO₄²⁻.

All the metals have tendency to lose the electrons and form cation. In given compound the metal is potassium so it should form the cation. The overall compound is neutral.

The charge on sulfate is -2. While the oxidation state of potassium is +1. So in order to make compound overall neutral there should be two potassium cation so that potassium becomes +2 and cancel the -2 charge on sulfate and make the charge on compound zero.

2K⁺²  ,  SO₄²⁻

K₂SO₄

What is the mass number of a carbon atom that contains 6 protons 8 neutrons 6 electrons?
zimovet [89]
Mass no. = Protons + Neutrons
Mass no.= 6 + 8
= 14

If you look at the periodic table, you will see that the carbon atom has a mass number of 12. But if you compare with this carbon, it is 14. This is because this carbon atom is an isotope. The isotope is called carbon-14.
