In south and southeast asia, the two main religious beliefs are islam and buddhism.

Buddhism was founded 2500 years ago in northern india, following the teachings of Siddharta Gautarna,(buddha or the 'enlightened'). Promulgates asceticism and meditation to reach the ideal state of Nirvana, where there is no pain. This religion has about 500 million followers in the world and china is the country with the highest number of practitioners.

Islam originated in the preaching of the prophet Muhammad, and Ala is the only accepted deity. His holy book is the Koran and his followers are estimated at more than one thousand one hundred million in the world, with indonesia with the largest number of practitioners and Meca (saudi arabia) as a sacred center. Each mulsuman must make the pilgrimage to this city, at least once in his life and guide his position when praying, in the direction if this place.
