substituting second eqn into 1st

2x + (3x + 2) = -4

2x + 3x = -4 - 2

5x = -6

x = -6/5

y = 3*(-6/5) + 2 = (-3*6 + 2*5)/5 = (-18 + 10)/5

= -8/5
