As salt is an ionic compound of Sodium and Chlorine, it is formed through ionic bond. It has ions of sodium and chlorine attached in a set of pattern.

If we draw the ionic structure of salt, we will see how one sodium atom is attached to 6 chlorine atoms in center and chlorine atoms are placed in each corner and middle of a cube.
