Answer:

a) recovered from pituitary glands removed from human cadavers.

Explanation:

  • The human growth hormone is responsible for growth along with cellular proliferation and reproduction in humans.
  • The hormone is secreted by the pituitary gland.
  • Therefore, before the recombinant DNA techniques were available the hormone was isolated from the pituitary glands fo human cadavers.
  • However, this method was not continued because the extract hormone became a source of infection for diseases such as the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
  • Therefore, alternatives were looked for and with the advent, in recombinant DNA techniques, the scientist was able to successfully make the recombinant human growth hormone as well.

Define what is meant by causal association according to Hill's criteria. From your own experiences, give an example of how the 3
xenn [34]

Answer:

Causal association is defined as two events in which one event leads to the cause/development of the second event such as the consumption of trans-fats and the onset of heart disease. In order to show the causal association, it is necessary to ensure that the 3 criteria of temporality, consistency, and strength are satisfied with respect to the relationship between consumption of trans fats and heart disease. According to this example involving the relationship between trans-fats and heart disease, temporality could be satisfied if one is consuming an excessive amount of foods containing trans-fats such asFrench fries, and who then ends up suffering from heart disease. In order to fulfill the criteria of strength, statistical tests would need to be performed in order to establish that there is a positive correlation between the individuals who consume trans-fats 10 times per week are shown to develop and require treatment for heart disease 90% of the time. Lastly, consistency may be fulfilled by showing that the same results are occurring despite applying the same testing measures on different groups of individuals during various increments. By applying the same tests on different groups, the chances of creating false-positives within the study can be significantly lowered. Numerous studies can be used to determine whether meaningful statements regarding the causal relationship between two factors can be established. By performing multiple studies on individuals’ eating habits and their health outcomes, researchers may then determine whether a relationship exists between the health challenges that they are faced with and the items that they consume.

Why are chloroplasts absent in epidermal cells ?
const2013 [10]
the function of epidermis is to protect the leaf
make it air tight
prevent water loss as it is waxy
also it is transparent and allows all light to enter...
chloroplast is required for carrying out process of photosynthesis...
as epidermis is not specialized to carry out photosynthesis... so it does not have any chloroplast...

Reflecting telescopes
Telescopes that use lenses are called refracting telescopes. The other type uses mirrors to focus the light of the image. These telescopes are called reflecting telescopes. Refracting telescopes use lenses to bend the light to a specific focal point such that the object will be magnified to the viewer.

light microscope
Optical instruments are based on optics. They use mirrors and lenses to reflect and refract light and form images. The light microscope and telescope use convex lenses and mirrors to make enlarged images of very tiny or distant objects. A camera uses a convex lens to make a reduced image of an object.

Refracting telescopes use lenses to focus the light, and reflecting telescopes use mirrors. I'll talk first about refracting ones. Refracting telescopes work by using two lenses to focus the light and make it look like the object is closer to you than it really is. Both lenses are in a shape that's called 'convex'.

the reflector telescope uses a mirror to gather and focus light. All celestial objects (including those in our solar system) are so far away that all of the light rays coming from them reach the Earth as parallel rays. Because the light rays are parallel to each other, the reflector telescope's mirror has a parabolic shape. The parabolic-shaped mirror focusses the parallel lights rays to a single point. All modern research telescopes and large amateur ones are of the reflector type because of its advantages over the refractor telescope.

Advantages

Reflector telescopes do not suffer from chromatic aberration because all wavelengths will reflect off the mirror in the same way.
Support for the objective mirror is all along the back side so they can be made very BIG!
Reflector telescopes are cheaper to make than refractors of the same size.
Because light is reflecting off the objective, rather than passing through it, only one side of the reflector telescope's objective needs to be perfect.

Disadvantages

It is easy to get the optics out of alignment.
A reflector telescope's tube is open to the outside and the optics need frequent cleaning.
Often a secondary mirror is used to redirect the light into a more convenient viewing spot. The secondary mirror and its supports can produce diffraction effects: bright objects have spikes (the ``christmas star effect'').

hope this helped!
