The coal strike of 1902 was a strike of the Miners of Eastern Pennsylvania. This strike was aimed at achieving better wages, shorter work hours and the creation and recognition of the miners' union. This strike brought many problems for Americans because it threatened the supply of coal to Americans who used coal as fuel and as a way to heat their homes in the winter.

President Teodore Roosevelt wants to intervene in the strike, but he was informed that he had no power to do so, so he decided to use the technique called arbitration which is a method of conflict resolution in which the parties define that a person or an entity will resolve the dispute presented by the parties. In other words, he tried to get the miners and their bosses to negotiate the best way to solve their problems.
