सरोज स्मृति” कविता निराला की दिवंगत पुत्री सरोज पर केन्द्रित हैं. यह कविता नौजवान बेटी की मृत्यु होने पर पिता का विलाप हैं. पिता के इस विलाप में कवि को कभी शकुंतला की याद आती हैं कभी अपनी स्वर्गीय पत्नी की याद आती हैं. बेटी के रूप रंग में पत्नी का रूप रंग दिखाई पड़ता हैं, जिसका चित्रण निराला जी ने किया हैं. यही नहीं इस कविता में एक भाग्यहीन पिता का संघर्ष, समाज से उसके सम्बन्ध, पुत्री के प्रति बहुत कुछ न कर पाने का अकर्मण्य बोध भी प्रकट हुआ हैं.

अशब्द अधरों का सुना भाष, मैं कवि हूँ, पाया है प्रकाश मैंने कुछ, अहरह रह निर्भर ज्योतिस्तरणा के चरणों पर। जीवित-कविते, शत-शर-जर्जर छोड़ कर पिता को पृथ्वी पर तू गई स्वर्ग, क्या यह विचार — “जब पिता करेंगे मार्ग पार यह, अक्षम अति, तब मैं सक्षम, तारूँगी कर गह दुस्तर तम?” —
कहता तेरा प्रयाण सविनय, — कोई न था अन्य भावोदय। श्रावण-नभ का स्तब्धान्धकार शुक्ला प्रथमा, कर गई पार!
धन्ये, मैं पिता निरर्थक था, कुछ भी तेरे हित न कर सका! जाना तो अर्थागमोपाय, पर रहा सदा संकुचित-काय लखकर अनर्थ आर्थिक पथ पर हारता रहा मैं स्वार्थ-समर। शुचिते, पहनाकर चीनांशुक रख सका न तुझे अत: दधिमुख। क्षीण का न छीना कभी अन्न, मैं लख न सका वे दृग विपन्न; अपने आँसुओं अत: बिम्बित देखे हैं अपने ही मुख-चित।
