The first quote suggests that writing makes us smarter, whilst the other suggests that writing does the exact opposite. This would be contrasting the two. Comparing the two would be that the two quotes are both about writing.

Plato defines wisdom. He then says that writing debases the idea of becoming wise. The top quotation talks about misrepresentation.
