Multiply the denominators by 12 and 5 so they both equal 60 then carry what you did from the bottom to the top. So 4/5 would turn to 48/60 and 5/12 would turn to 25/60. Now that you have the denominators the same you can just easily subtract 25 from 48 and get 23. You would carry 60 over to the bottom. Usually you would simply the answer into a smaller number fraction but for this answer it’s just 23/60 because no multiple of 60 goes into 23. Nothing really goes into 23.
