1. Thiamin (vitamin B1) helps the body's cells change or convert carbohydrates, fats, and protein into energy, or glucose into energy. The main role of carbohydrates is to provide energy for the body, especially the brain and nervous system.

2. Thiamin also plays a role in muscle contraction and conduction of nerve signals.

3. Thiamin is essential for the metabolism of pyruvate.

4. B1 vitamins are necessary for keeping the liver, skin, hair, and eyes healthy. They also play a role in the nervous system, and they are needed for good brain function.

5. The B1 vitamins are sometimes called anti-stress vitamins, because they boost the body’s immune system in times of stress.
