Ecosystem refers to the community made up of all the living organisms (biotic component), their physical environment and all their interactions in a given space.
The biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystem are linked with the help of energy flows and nutrient cycles.
The carbon dioxide breathed out is a by-product of the process of cell respiration, as is water. In this process, energy is produced in the mitochondria of cells. This energy is our physical "life force". Both oxygen and glucose are required for this.
