The mass of the particles that a river can transport is proportional to the sixth power of the speed of the river. A certain riv

er normally flows at a speed of 1 meter per second. What must its speed be in order to transport particles that are twice as massive as usual? 10 times as massive? 100 times as massive?

Answer:

v_2 \approx 1.12246\ m.s^{-1}

v_{10}\approx 1.4678\ m.s^{-1}

v_{100}\approx 1.4678\ m.s^{-1}

Step-by-step explanation:

Mass of particles that a river can transport, m\propto\ v^6

where:

v = velocity of river flow

When v=1\ m.s

then the mass transported, m \propto 1^6

<u>When mass is twice:</u>

v=\sqrt[6]{2}

v_2 \approx 1.12246\ m.s^{-1}

<u>When mass is 10 times:</u>

v=\sqrt[6]{10}

v_{10}\approx 1.4678\ m.s^{-1}

<u>When mass is 100 times:</u>

v=\sqrt[6]{100}

v_{100}\approx 1.4678\ m.s^{-1}

Solve for x.
victus00 [196]
The answer is 370 because you need to work it out.

Basically what I did was look at the first number, 12, and the answer to the equation and saw that 12 x 10 would be 120. And 360 + 10 would be 370.

It fits in perfectly.

12(370 - 360) = 120
370 - 360 = 10
12(10) = 120

So x = 370

Gina has 7/8 pound of nuts that she wants to divide equally into 4 bags. How can Gina determine the amount of nuts she can put i
FinnZ [79.3K]

Gina must divide a fraction by a whole number.

The amount of nuts in each bag will be less than 7/8 because 7/8 is divided by 4.

Gina will be able to put 7/32 pounds of nuts in each bag.
