Job design refers to the process of defining the way work will be performed and the tasks that will be required in a given job.

Managers may be required to design jobs from scratch within a work unit. There are many approaches to job design, each with its own purpose, advantages, and disadvantages.When an organization is trying to improve quality or efficiency, a review of work units and processes may require a fresh look at how jobs are designed. To design jobs effectively, a person must thoroughly understand the job itself and its place in the larger work unit's work flow process. This activity is important because a manager has many alternative ways to design a job when he or she has detailed knowledge of the tasks performed in the work unit and in the job.The goal of this activity is to understand the various approaches to designing a job.Read each scenario, then select the appropriate approach to job design that should be used.(Industrial Engineering, Motivation, Ergonomics, Cognitive Ergonomics)1. Star, Inc., a prominent consumer products firm, is debating whether or not to convert its all-equity capital structure to one th
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]

Answer:

Explanation:

1)  The earnings per share are:

EPS = $39,100/17,000 shares

EPS = $2.30

Cash flow for the company is:

Cash flow = $2.30 X 150 shares

Cash flow = $345

2) Need to determine the EPS of the firm under the proposed capital structure. The market value of the firm is:

MV = $47*17,000  = $799,000

Under the proposed capital structure, the firm will raise new debt in the amount of  D = 0.20*$799,000 = $159,800 in debt. The number of shares repurchased will be:

Shares repurchased = $159,800/$47  = 3400

Under the new capital structure, the company will have to make an interest payment on the new debt. The net income with the interest payment will be:

NI = $39,100 – 0.065*$159,800  = $39100-10,387= $28,713

EPS under the new capital structure will be:

EPS = $28,713/13,600 shares  = $2.11

Shareholder cash flow = $2.11*150 shares  = $316.5

3)  In this case, capital structure is irrelevant because shareholders can create their own leverage or unlever the stock to create different capital structures. This has no connection with the capital structure that firm chooses.

Majestic Corporation manufactures wheel barrows and uses budgeted machine hours to allocate variable manufacturing overhead. The
andre [41]

Answer:

$409185

Explanation:

Given: Budgeted output units: 28,475 units

Budgeted machine-hours: 17,085 hours

Budgeted variable manufacturing overhead costs for 28,475 units: $358,785

Actual output units produced: 32,475 units

Actual machine-hours used: 15,000 hours

Actual variable manufacturing overhead costs: $384,060.

First, we will find Budgeted machine hour per unit produced.

Budgeted machine hour per unit produced=  \frac{Budgeted\ machine\ hour}{Budgeted\ units}

⇒Budgeted machine hour per unit produced= 17085\div 28475= 0.6

∴Budgeted machine hour per unit produced= 0.6

Budgeted machine hours allowed for 32475 units= 32475\times 0.6= 19485

Budgeted variable overhead rate per machine hour= \textrm {Budgeted variable manufacturing overhead costs}\div Budgeted\ machine\ hours

Budgeted variable overhead rate per machine hour= 358785\div 17085= \$ 21

Now, lets find out flexible budget amount.

Flexible budget amount= \textrm{Budgeted machine hours allowed}\times \textrm{Budgeted variable overhead rate}

Flexible budget amount= 19485\times \$ 21= \$ 409185

∴Flexible budget amount for variable manufacturing overhead= $409185
