A democracy is a political system that provides the opportunity to make a change in leadership according to the vote of the majority.
Usually, there are three political systems, autocracy, monarchy and democracy. Out of all, democracy places more power in the hands of people, that is why we call it government of the people, for the people and by the people. In a democracy, a leader can be chosen based on the votes of the majority.
This is done with the idea of investing more powers in the hands of people which is exercised by them directly or indirectly. Thus there are four different types of democracies- direct, indirect, constitutional and monitory.
