Step 1) You would need to convert your 2 fractions into equivalent numbers. In this case, the closet gcf (greatest common factor) is 12. So, 5/4 would convert to 15/12 and  2/3 converts to 8/12.

Step 2) You know have your decimals that are equivalent. All you have left now is to subtract. Take 15/12 and subtract 8/12 from it. You would now get 7/12 of a mile that is still needed to run. 

Step 3) Usually, you would simplify your new fraction. In this case, our fraction doesn't simplify. It will stay 7/12 of a mile. For example, If our number had ended up being 4/12, then we would simplify it to 1/3 of a mile. Because, 4 divided by 4 is 1 and 12 divided by 4 is 3. You can't simplify your answer anymore.

Let the length be L ft

The width be W ft

Now as per question

L = 5 + ( 2× W )

Or, 82 = 2 × ( L+ W )

Or,  82 = 2 × [ 5 + ( 2 ×W ) + W ) ]

Or,  82 = 2 × ( 5 +3W )

Or,  41 = 5 + 3W

Or, 41 - 5 = 3W

So, 3W= 36

∴    W = \frac{36}{3} = 12 feet

I.e Width = 12 feet

And L = 5 + ( 2× W )

Or, Length = 5 + 24 = 29 feet

Now The Area of Rectangle = Length × width

So, The Area of Rectangle = 29 ft × 36 ft

The Area of Rectangle is 1044 feet²

We're given the implicit equation

x² + 2x + y² - 4y = 12

where "implicit" means that one of the variables is considered a function of the other. In this case, the variable y = y(x) depends on the value of the variable x - in other words, the possible values of y are implied by the value of x. We then say that this equation defines y as an implicit function of x.

We're also given the implicit derivative,

dy/dx = (-2x - 2)/(2y - 4)

which tells us the rate of change y as a function of both x and y. The value of dy/dx corresponds to the slope of the tangent line to the curve defined by the implicit equation above at some point (x, y).

The tangent line is horizontal when its slope is zero. This happens when

(-2x - 2)/(2y - 4) = 0

If y ≠ 2, then we can eliminate the denominator and we're left with

-2x - 2 = 0

Solve for x :

-2x = 2

x = -1

This tells us that the points on the curve with x-coordinate -1 have a tangent line to the curve that is horizontal.
