The Second Great Awakening caused a wave of religious movement and beliefs. Those involved, especially women, began reform movements to include abolition, temperance, prison reform, immigration reform.

The Seneca Falls Convention was a meeting of women interested in advancing rights and gaining the right to vote. The suffrage movement grew out of the reforms of the Second Great Awakening. The women in attendance created the Declaration of Sentiments which declared the reasons why women should be granted the right to vote.

The Gold Rush caused many to migrate West in hopes of finding gold. However, many were unable to find gold and with a lack of settlement, resources were scarce. The West had Asian immigrants in addition to blacks, Irish, and Mexicans were all living together. The lack of settlement resulted in few rules or institutions to support the area.

The Iroquois did not care about getting a college education from the Europeans because they did not want to change their rich culture, history, beliefs, and traditions, which were so rooted in the teachings of their ancestors and the love for mother nature.

When white European colonists arrived in the Americas in early 1607, the King of England .for instance- ordered to instruct the Native American Indians into the Cristian religious teachings. What was known as evangelization.  Europeans saw the Native Indians as "savages," ignorant people that needed to be instructed.

That is why some colonists founded Harvard college in 1650 in Massachusetts. Missionary man John Eliot had n¿been the supporter behind this idea that never really wrorked.
