In 2006 there was a scandal involving the firing of 9 US attorneys. In fact, 12 attorneys had been on a list for replacement, an

d another 3 resigned under pressure. Rove mentioned 12 states as being especially important in the presidential election. Six of the 12 attorneys on the list were from these states. Overall there were 93 attorneys in 2006 of whom 12 were replaced. Seventeen of the 93 were in the states mentioned by Rove; and 6 of these were replaced. The remaining 76 US attorneys in the other 38 states were not mentioned by Rove, and 6 of these were replaced. Compute the proportion of attorneys from the states mentioned by Rove who resigned or were fired. Compute the analogous proportion from states not mentioned by Rove. Does the difference in the two proportions from part (a) seem usually large, or might it have happened due to chance alone? If the difference seems too large to be to chance alone, what does that suggest about the decision making with regard to replacing US attorneys?

A chocolate company makes chocolate malt balls that are 0.8 inches in diameter. The carton they are to be packed in is approxima
zheka24 [161]

Given parameters:

Diameter of the malt balls  = 0.8in

Dimensions of the prism = 4in x 3in x 7.5in

Unknown:

Number of malt balls that will fit in the carton = ?

Solution:

To solve this problem, we need to find the volume of each of the malt balls, and then the volume of the rectangular prism.

Volume of the malt balls  = \frac{4}{3}  \pi  r^{3}

This is because we assume that the balls have a spherical shape.

    Where r is radius and π is a constant

Radius of the malt balls  = \frac{0.8}{2}   = 0.4in

So, volume  = \frac{4}{3} x 3.142 x 0.4^{3}   = 0.27in³

Volume of the rectangular prism = l x w x h

  where l is the length

            w is the width

            h is the height

So the volume is 4 x 3 x 7.5 = 90in³

The number of malt balls that can be packed here = \frac{90}{0.27}   = 333 malt balls

Hannah buys some shoes in sale marked 40% off she pays 27 for the shoes what price were the shoes the shoes orginally
mezya [45]

Given:

The price of shoes after discount = 27

Discount % = 40%

To find:

The original price of shoes before discount.

Solution:

Let x be the original price of shoes before discount.

The price of shoes after 40% discount is

\text{New price}=x-\dfrac{40}{100}\times x

\text{New price}=x-0.4x

\text{New price}=0.6x

The price of shoes after discount = 27

27=0.6x

\dfrac{27}{0.6}=x

45=x

Therefore, the original price of the shoes is 45.

1)The graph of the function y = 4x does not pass through the origin.
Gemiola [76]

Answer:

The correct options are:

Option B) 4^x is never zero.

Option F) When x=0, y≠0

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided function.

y=4^x

When we substitute x=0 in above function we get:

y=4^{0}

y=1

When we substitute x=-1 in above function we get:

y=4^{-1}

y=0.25

When we substitute x=1 in above function we get:

y=4^{1}

y=4

The above function is exponential function which does not pass through the origin and the range of the function is a positive number.

The graph of the function is shown in figure 1.

Now consider the provided options.

Option A) 4^x is always greater than or equal to 1.

The option is incorrect as the value of the function is less than 1 for negative value of x.

Option B) 4^x is never zero

The option is correct.

Option C) When y=0, x=0

The option is incorrect.

Option D) When x=0, y=4

When x=0 the value of y is 1.

Thus, the option is incorrect.

Option E) 4^x is zero when x=0

When x=0 the value of 4^x is 1.

Thus, the option is incorrect.

Option F) When x=0, y≠0

The option is correct as 0≠1.
