With the assistance of NAACP and the SCLC the civil rights movement was able to take a legal approach and based its principles on nonviolence and civil disobedience. it was necessary for African Americans to stand for their rights, as even when the 13, 14, and 15 amendments were passed, whites and congress still found ways around it.
