There is many reasons why people have depression. Loss of a family member, bullying, physically abused or mentally abused. Persistent Depressive Disorder is Depression that lasts about 2 years or more it could cause change in appetite, sleep to much or too little, also a lack of energy or fatigue. You could also have low self-esteem even have trouble concentrating and making decisions. You could also feel hopeless you would need therapy and sometimes medications. There is about 9 different depression or more I hope this helps.
Substance abuse such as drugs, alcohol and tobacco, family problems such as domestic violence and abuse, social problems such as peer pressure, bullying, and exclusion, and so many other environmental reasons, but substance abuse, family dysfunction and social problems are the common reasons why.

- Exercising outside only in appropriate weather
- Exercising outside only in daylight hours
- Having your phone with you in case you need to call for help if you become injured or abducted
- Making sure that you stretch before and after to improve performance and to decrease the likelihood of injury
- Possibly having a personal alarm
- Trained in a martial art or hand-to-hand combat
- Having proper clothing and shoes
- NOT wearing earbuds that impair your awareness of your surroundings
