As the party system grew, White Men (C) had expanded voting rights. The emergence of political parties as a fundamental organizing unit of the Second Party System represents a breakthrough in the values that have shaped the Republican and Federalist political competition.

EXPLANATION

Leaders in the previous system held suspicions that parties could potentially damage the young republic. At the heart of the new legitimacy of parties and open democratic celebrations. Seen as an effort to dramatically expand the voting rights for white men.

Immediately after the Revolution, most states retained several property requirements which obviously prevented the poor from voting. Following the republican principle, citizens are believed to be the main ones in economic interests. Logically, if a voter does not have economic independence, then people who control their livelihoods can easily manipulate their votes.

Ironically, just as the matter of wages for industrial workers began creating workers who were dependent on large new scales. The old republic's commitment to voters who owned property was not approved. Because the property ownership requirements were ended, economic status vanished as a basis for citizenship. Finally, in 1840, more than 90% of white men had the right to vote.
