James was the last British governor of the Province of Georgia. His popularity among the colonists allowed him to have control over his colony during the American revolutionary war. He was the only Royal governor of the thirteen Colonies at that time. While never fully in control of the state during the revolution, he did restore large areas within Georgia to colonial rule. That makes Georgia the only colony that was regained by the British once they had been expelled.

Postive effects could be that it brings people together, gives them a community for supporting each other, focuses their attention on God. It provides a moral framework, comfort for those in need, the promise of an afterlife... and so on.

Negative effects are that the different religions can be seen to inspire conflict in the world, some might say that they focus people too much on religious things rather than on day to day things (so you lose the plot basically!).
