Blood borne pathogens are microorganisms which are transmitted through the blood. Blood borne infections can be transmitted in the blood or body fluid such as saliva, mucus that can be mixed with blood and cause diseases like Hepatitis B and HIV (Human immuno deficiency virus). The most common method of transmission of pathogen through blood of an infected person when enters in the body of a healthy person through open wound.

Blood borne pathogens are the microorganism that can <u>be the source of long lasting disease in human body</u>. They are transmitted through blood stream and bodily fluid. The person get infected when the body fluid of an <u>infected person enter into the blood stream or bodily fluid</u> of another person. These can also infect the person by spreading from mucous membrane and open sore or wound.

Mucous membrane is the moist region of the human body they are present in the eye, nose and mouth. Some blood borne pathogen cause few significant health threats whereas some are potentially fatal and they also lead to other illnesses are,

1. Hepatitis B: This virus <u>infects the liver cell</u> which can cause fatal liver conditions such as cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer. They are common among drug user.

2. Hepatitis C: According to CDC, this is the most occurring chronic blood borne infection in the U.S which spread <u>through direct blood contact </u>such as skin puncture. No vaccine is available for this virus.

3. HIV: This virus cause AIDS which <u>weaken the immune system</u> of an individual and make it difficult for an infected person to resist other illnesses.

If the person is exposed to any of the blood borne infection than he should follow some step to avoid it first <u>washes the area with soap and water</u>. In case blood enters the eye clean it with sterile irrigate or saline and get medical help right away.
