Both let their respective party get in the way so it was the typical democrat vs republican prior to the election. Obama supported Clinton because she was a democrat, the same Obama bashed Clinton when she ran against him but 2016 was all about keeping a democratic president. After the election, Obama in true presidential form put the country before his party and agreed to support the president elect.
