Read the following passage: “I gazed at these marvels in profound silence. Words were utterly wanting to indicate the sensations
Ne4ueva [31]

The correct word is “gazed”. The verb gaze is used to describe the action of looking / staring at something for a long period of time – be it because that something being watched is impressive or simply because the watcher is distracted and pensive. In the passage, the word gaze does NOT impact the mood.

What really impacts the mood in the passage are the other words – marvels, profound, wonder, mysterious, spectacle and phenomena – since their meaning convey an idea of something unnatural, exciting and incredible happening before the eyes of the narrator.

The passage was taken from the book A Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Julio Verne. The narrator is struggling to describe his sensations when he finds a gigantic cavern and the Central Sea below the surface of the Earth.

What are the conditions for the Caskets that Portia’s father has laid out in the will?
krok68 [10]

Answer:

Her father's will states that any would-be husband of Portia's has to correctly complete a task. The men must choose from three caskets – one is made of gold, one silver and the third, lead. One of the caskets holds a portrait of Portia and whoever chooses this one will become her husband.

The suitors must pick from three caskets. The one who picks the casket with Portia's portrait inside will be able to marry her. If the wrong casket is chosen, he must remain single, not reveal which casket he picked, and leave immediately.
