Answer:

D

Explanation:

Every organism, even the almighty elephant, starts as a single cell. This single cell continually divides mitotically to form the adult organism. Contained in this single cell, is a DNA, coding for all proteins the adult organism will use. All these proteins will not be expressed at once, rather the cells keep dividing and as they divide they undergo gene expression to become specific types of cells. This process is called CELL DIFFERENTIATION.

Cell differentiation is the process by which dividing cells change their function or phenotypic type. Eventually, an organism with hundreds of different types of cells is formed by this process of cell differentiation.

After fertilization in animals (scorpion inclusive), a single celled zygote is formed. This zygote is totipotent i.e. capable of repeated division to form differentiated cells The cells of zygote then undergoes division and during the division, it becomes differentiated to form complex tissues and organs which make up the its body parts including its stinging tail. All cells emanate from the stem cells and becomes specialized as they mature.

N.B: the original mass of cells yet to undergo differentiation are known as STEM CELLS and they are contained in the zygote.

Nutka1998 [239]

Answer:

The correct answer is inheritance.

Explanation:

Genetic characteristics are transferred from one generation to another. The mechanism of transfer of genetically determined characteristics from generation to generation is called inheritance.

Genetic characteristics are stored within the sex chromosome of both male(XY) and female(XX).During fertilization when the sperm cells fuses with ovum at that time some characteristics of both male and female gets incorporated into the diploid zygote which give rise to the new organism containing inherited genetic characteristics.

A subset of a population of birds leaves its habitat on the mainland and colonizes a nearby island. The birds, after a period of
Kazeer [188]

Answer:

The answer is A - The populations will not be able to interbreed because they are different species and different species cannot interbreed

Explanation:

The population of birds become reproductively isolated because they are different species and different species are unable to interbreed. This is as a result of barriers which are called mechanisms of reproductive isolation which involves mechanisms, behaviors and processes that are critical for speciation. In reproductive isolation the different species are able to live in the same are but their properties and characteristics do not allow them interbreed to produce healthy and sterile offspring.

Compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
Montano1993 [528]

Prokaryotes are usually smaller than eukaryotes. They also don’t have a nucleus so DNA is in the cytoplasm. They also have no organelle membranes where as eukaryotes do. Domains of prokaryotes include Bacteria and Archaea, and all eukaryotes are in the domain Eukarya. Both can be free living, but only eukaryotes can be multicellular. Prokaryotes first appeared on earth about 3.5 billions then eukaryotes appeared about a billion years later. Etc....
