Given: The president relied on his friends in other countries to help him win the war against their common enemy

Based on the context of the given sentence, allies would be the best replacement for friends

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

Allies are the head of a state/country who share mutual interests with another head of a state/country and co-operate to accomplish some purposes, which are usually military objectives.

Allies need not necessarily be friends but can also be people who share mutual interests, whereas buddies and mates refer to friends in an informal manner. Associates usually refer to colleagues at work, thus making allies as the suitable answer.

Which excerpt from "Broken Chain" includes details that could illustrate a paragraph about conflict?
baherus [9]

The story of Broken Chains was written by Gary Soto. Gary Soto was born and raised in Fresno, California, the setting of many of his stories, poems, and autobiographical pieces. In his writing, Soto tries to recreate the sights and sounds of the Mexican American neighborhood in which he grew up.

The story is about Alfonso's first date. The story presents problems like the ones many of us face. He worries a lot about how he looks, and everything seems to go wrong.

Here we have a paraphrased version of the passage where it is shown that he had insecurity issues since he was a little kid.

When he was four years old, he decided to face the situation and make it to Sandra's house, walking doubtfully and slowly as walking in the water up to his waist. His face was red by the shame. He wondered at how things could go wrong in this his first date, Sandra would probably laugh at him.

This excerpt from "Broken Chain" includes details that could illustrate a paragraph about conflict, internal conflict actually:

1) He liked what he saw until he smiled and realized for the first time that his teeth were crooked, like a pile of wrecked cars. He grew depressed and turned away from the mirror.

Why do writers and speakers include counter, or opposing, claims?
shutvik [7]

Writers and speakers use counter claims so that they can counter something if it shows up. If there is an opinion that someone says, that could be counted a claim as long as they use evidence. Then if you disagree, you can use a counterclaim to tell them that you have a different opinion that is backed up by an opinion.
